About the Role:

Our client is seeking an innovative individual who is passionate about quality, technology and systems engineering.

This person will lead the infrastructure efforts  and integrate with our engineering teams to help deliver performant and scalable solutions to our users. This job, based in Calgary, Canada, entails owning the infrastructure and pioneering efforts to help grow and scale the platform. Whilst building out an infrastructure team.


  • Lead designs of major software components, systems, and features to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of services

  • Partnering closely with engineering teams to optimize and scale our services

  • Design and champion​ company SLIs, SLAs & SLOs

  • Manage individual projects priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards, and to cultivate innovation and collaboration across multiple team

  • Lead sustainable incident response, blameless postmortems, and production improvements that result in direct business opportunities

  • Identify repeatable processes and automate them quickly

  • Propose and implement innovative technologies, new integrations and tools by working with the teams

  • Work with Tech leads and conduct Architecture Planning meetings

  • Monitor reliability and performance of all internal systems to suggest improvements

  • Ensure compliance with security regulations (HIPAA)

  • Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and equipment


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field involving software/systems engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • Extensive knowledge of Ruby plus at least 1 additional language (preferably GO)

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering and Site Reliability

  • Experience with algorithms and data structures

  • Experience managing / building infrastructure on AWS

  • Experience managing / building infrastructure on GCP (Bonus)

  • Using Docker is something you do daily

  • Experience with some type of infrastructure-as-code tool (Terraform / Ansible / Chef etc.)

  • Experience in DBA, in particular around failover and security

  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed


  • Working knowledge of protocols and standards like TCP, HTTP, UDP, DNS, TLS

    (you also know where they are in the OSI model)

  • Experience utilizing tools such as NewRelic, Datadog and AppDynamics for

    monitoring and custom alerting

  • A deep understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems

  • CI / CD is your second name
